Dear Lisa

Please find below a statement to support WeeeCharity.

WeeeCharity plays a crucial role in supporting Warrington & Vale Royal College’s Foundation Department by offering work placements and group projects tailored for vulnerable young people, some of which have additional needs and for those at risk of becoming NEET.

These valuable work placements and group projects allow for a range of skills development, where our people can learn valuable technical skills such as computer repair, repurposing and how to use a wide range of tools and equipment. In addition, our students develop soft skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and time management, which are essential in any workplace.

Foundation students gain an insight into workplace dynamics and expectations. This experience helps bridge the gap between classroom-based knowledge and real-life practical application.   Additionally, exposure to a professional environment teaches them about workplace etiquette, such as punctuality, responsibility, and interpersonal interactions.

Mentors from the charity provide guidance, helping our students navigate challenges and develop their employability skills alongside tailored support that ensures their unique needs are met, fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Working in small groups has encouraged collaboration, allowing our students to work together towards a common goal.  Teamwork skills have developed and fostered a sense of community.

At an individual level, being part of this initiative has boosted self-confidence and self-esteem particularly for those students who have struggled in traditional educational settings.  Empowering our students is absolutely essential in helping them to develop a sense of purpose and direction.

WeeeCharity has played an important role in helping plan our curriculum for our hardest to reach students.  Working together we are beginning a project in September 24 to upcycle computer and electronic parts to make creative and innovative products to raise money for the charity.  This project has numerous benefits for students in that it will establish starting points around soft skills, develop creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, raise awareness of environmental impact and develop entrepreneurial skills.

To conclude, the overall impact of WVR and WeeeCharity working together is keeping young people engaged in meaningful activities reducing the risk of them becoming NEET and is providing safe, nurturing and structured placement opportunities for students with additional needs.  The partnership between WeeeCharity and Warrington & Vale Royal is a holistic approach to supporting vulnerable young people. By offering work placements and group projects, the charity helps our unique and valued students develop essential skills, gain real-world experience, and build confidence, ultimately reducing their risk of becoming NEET and fostering a more inclusive, skilled community.
